Hi. My ex partner currently pays 100 a month for our 2 children, as I am on income support we agreed that this is an appripriate amount as if he was to pay anymore then it would go back to the benfits and not to the children. As of April I will be working and no longer in receipt of income support so will I be intitled to more money from the ex? I'm really confused as to how it works so any help and advice will be greatly appreciated.

I would have thought you would be better applying for childrens tax credit and working tax credit, cos any maintenance is discounted, and so you shouldd be alot better of, especially if you work over 30 hours when u can get the child care element too

What about in the future, if I was to move in with my partner, so therefore wouldn't be entitled to tax credits?
It is still possible for couples to receive tax credits, it would depend on what your joint income was though.

100 a month doesn't seem a lot for 2 children, again it depends on your ex's income as the CSA has a set precentage that they take from his whole income.
Hi
I'm not sure if you have been using the csa for a while but I know they now have a new system, as I have recently spoken to them.

On the new system it does not take into account what income you do or do not have but solely what your ex earns.
For you it will be 20% of his net WEEKLY Income after Income Tax and NI.

They see the process as 'they are ensuring you get what the ex would have contributed to the household if you had not split' (their words not mine)

Have a look at this link it might help explain things a bit further.

They also do not take into account partners on either side, unless they have an extremely high income.
hi not sure if this helps my partner has a son with his ex. he used to pay her 95 pound which is what the csa agree on as she didnt work. she now works part time and is now only entitled to 60 pound a month. bot sure how it all works but my partner was paying his ex cash and recently checked with the csa and they said he only has to pay 60 a month
