apparantly cooled camomile tea works wonders. It is recommended you wipe baby down with this using cotton wool. Ensure properly dry before putting nappy back on. Try to stay away from actual babywipes at the moment. Change at least every two hours and right away if actually soiled and as you say try to give baby time without nappy on as much as possible. It will be being made worse by baby teething I am sure.
Anytime my son was teething, he had acid poo - you had to get it off his bottom within minutes or it burned his bottom to the extent that you couldn't wipe it, i had to gently shower his bottom with warm water. Sudocreme and being extremely vigilant was the only was that we manage to cope with it, but my mum did recommend painting his bottom with egg white, but i have to say I didn't try it as it sounded a bit too weird.
theres a cream called bepanthen which is very good and available over the counter. Timodene, only on prescription is great too. Just wash babys bum a lot too!!
hi my nephew was given the same cream and within a week his was gone. when i had my first baby my mom said to apply vasaline to the bottom every time i changed his bottom as it protected his skin from the wee. i did this with both my boys who are now 1 and 2 and they have never suffered with nappy rash. not sure if it works for everyone but it did for mine. when his rash has gone give it a try.
could you not use the towelling nappies untill it clears as they will be softer on his skin

thanks guys. i have been using metanium since yesterday and this morning it has improved a lot. still looks very sore but its cleared a lot. i heard of egg wgite as well. didnt try it tho, was leaving it as a last resort but doesnt look like i need to try it now. thanks again
Hi Gem, my 6 month girl had it bad for the first time recently, best thing that cleared it up was to leave her nappy off for a few hours and reapply talc powder to dry it up.

We left her on a few towels on the floor to roll around and applied talc and within that few hours it looked A LOT better already.

I know some people are against using talc but it worked for us and even if you just leave the nappy off for a few hours, it will give plenty of air to their littlle bottoms! x
Hi Nat - I am afraid I am one of the anti talc brigade - I have been reliably informed that you can use cornstrarch as a substitute, but I haven't tried that either. if you are going to use talc at the very least, pop a little bit on you hand then rub it onto the bottom rather than sprinkling it on to keep the amount in the air to a minimum. It is shockingly bad for your lungs never mind a babies.
Well it didnt do any harm to myself, my brother, my boyfriend, his sister, my mum, dad, his parents, and generations of others.... i just think its another overhyped theory along with a list of hundreds of others that people in our day and age dramatise about....

BUT i understand that if you're unsure its better to be safe than sorry.
