I Want to install Openoffice org but as soon as Iplug in the external HD will the open office be installed on the external drive and not the laptop as I will not have enough space.
I do have a MS office CD which a friend gave me a couple of years back but would that be installed on the ext. drive. From what I was told it was a completely genuine cd.

Run the CD and choose where you wish to install it - ie which drive

It is not a good idea to install programs on an external drive.

Make room on your "C" drive and install it there.
