should agencies charge u for your wage?

i recently worked for an employment agency in the building trade, im a bricklayer and have worked for agencies many times in the last 12 years, however this time i was forced to register with a payroll company and was charged �20 to get my wage, is this acceptable practice?

I suggest you contact your local Law Centre (ask the CAB to direct you to one); they are usually good on work-related issues.  Sorry I cannot help myself, but it does seem unfair to me.
It depends upon what you signed when you registered with the payroll company. If you agreed to pay a processing fee then that is what the �20 is for.
