I have been with my bloke for 12 years(married for 5) so its not like we are love struck teenagers or anything, but I did not even get a card! I feel kind of let down, even though I know it should not bother me, am I being unreasonable ?

Hi wildchild, we've never done anything at Valentines cos hubby of 21 years says its a rip off and he doesnt need a special day to show how much he loves me, its all year round!

My friend told his wife to be ready to be picked up from work last night by taxi, he said he was taking her for a meal beacuse it would be too busy tonight. The taxi drove her to the airport to meet him and they flew to Copenhagen for three nights!! He'd organised her suitcase, passport etc.

Excellent! I had something similar happen on my birthday some year's back. But for anyone who can't afford to do such things (or doesn't think of it) - just a few nice words and a hug can make someone as happy. Nice story though.
Ice I absolutely agree. It's all relative really. For someone who can be quite a closed book, a small show of thought and affection is really appreciated.

I don't ever expect anything: even if we had more money than we do, lavish gifts wouldn't make much difference to our relationship. I got out of the bath this morning to find my partner had been in the bedroom before he went out to work, strewn the bed with little hearts and put a bouquet, a box of chocs, a Toblerone, some marshmallows and some chilli chocolate lips (yes, I have a sweet tooth!) on the pillow. He mightn't say "I love you" very often, but this was so special to me that I cried!

I see why people don't agree with it, and I see why people do. I just think for some people it's nice to have an excuse (for all we can ask why people need an excuse, everyday life can eliminate romance from our minds!)
ps. originalang, that is nice! x

Ok ok, I am sorry!! I did get a card, and a very nice bunch of flowers! But hey it gave us something to talk about! I hope you all have a good day, no mater how or who you are spending it with x
Lovely, Leela - I think you've hit the nail on the head there as well. x
Awww wildchild, ye of little faith! Bet you appreciate it all the more now too! Shame his dinner is cold! :P

Cheers, Ice. Hope your day has been nice, whichever way! x
