No Sound on the Laptop

Hi guys this is for a friend, on her toolbar along the bottom of the desktop the wee speaker icon has dissappeared and she is getting no sound. Any ideas all you wunnerfull peeps. TIA as ever x

Oh incase there is a difference the o/s is Xp and the laptop a Toshiba

Go to start > control panel > sounds and audio devices > double click > carry on from there

Did it work?

Might just be a case of re-installing the driver for the sound.
