My daughter has bought a freeview box for the tv in her bedroom. She can get a very good picture on terestrial via the aerial in the loft but can't get a picture on freeview. we've tried the box on our tv (different house) and it works ok. Is there any way of getting it to work without having to have an aerial put on the roof. TIA.

Hi,
first check using your postcode to see if your daughter can actually recieve Freeview.

Most Freeview boxes have a signal strength (and quality) meter somewhere in the menus anything below 40% will give you problems

digital requires a better quality signal I think also make sure the arial is "up the right way" it might be horizontal or vertical this is critical in digital tv so if someone say put the arial on the wall and mounted it sideways well you probably won't get much
I fit the odd aerial and the best bet is to fit an outdoor "Digital" aerial as the signal received by the box is better. The aerial doesn't have to go on the roof any outside wall will be ok as long as it's pointing in the direction of your local transmitter. A digital aerial is not expensive and most B&Q do them for less than 20.

Also don't get conned into getting the ones that have the yellow or blue bits of plastic on them that cost about 75 they do the same job as the 20 ones....

Thanks for all your answers. My husband has checked the one in the loft and said it's a good aerial and seems to pointing the right way etc.
We checked out that she can get a signal for freeveiw and the answer to that was yes.
So.. I guess the next option is putting one outside.
Time to poke her dad up the ladder!
Thanks again x
We had to have a digital aerial before receiving picture through our Freeview box. We will all need them in time anyway, so not totally a waste of money.

The only reason she doesn't fancy paying out for a digital aerial is that their main tv is on cable.
