I had a clear out over Christmas and took some bags of stuff to our local cancer research yesterday - there was a sign on the door saying 'no more donations, we're full' I went in anyway and they're charging 4 for a second hand tshirt , 15 for a very dirty suede jacket and 2.50 for a paperback book, the shop was empty. Next door at Barnados all clothing was 1.50 and books 75p - the shop was packed and everyone buying something (I took my bags there!).
I regularly take things and I also buy from charity shops- I know they have to raise money but surely a bit of common sense should prevail here?

It tends to be also whereabouts you live.
Where I live (In the midlands) it's very exspensive. Personally my mum and I use ebay now days.
My daughter has a clearout of her old (and often hardly used) toys every December - last year we went to the local RSPCA shop who had charged us 5 each for blankets for my dog to give birth on and took 3 carloads of stuff. They didn't even say thank you!

This time we went to the local church charity shop who had given us blankets for free and they were so grateful it was unreal - Go with the ones who give something back is what I say - I know where I'm going next time!
I went into a charity shop and asked if they wanted stuff. I never give cr@p btw. The woman said yes. I went to the car and brought it in left it by the desk and went to get more. A 2nd woman had appeared. She waited till I got to the door and asked what I had. I asked her if she couldn't look in the bags herself so I showed her. She pulled a face so I asked if she wanted the rest and if not to just say so.

She looked me straight in the eye and said 'well...OK...it's just that it costs us a lot of money in skips you know'.

no clothes should be more than 50 p and furniture in these shops is amazingly expensive. I saw a 1930s sideboard for 500 quid. Second hand sofas are hundreds. Charity shops should be cheap, cheap, it's not like they are stocking quality.

I also once went into Oxfam to buy some Xmas cards and found a paperback gazzilionth print of Harry Potter for more than its original selling price. It was about 9 quid.
i`ve been saying yhis for years. i saw a top in a local shop & was amazed to find that it was 2 dearer than if i`d gone next door to peacocks & bought it new(on sale). the assistant told me that they`re given the prices to charge. the managers in the more well known charity shops get paid.
Have to agree with everyone else.
You can often buy the same item new.
I take all our unwanted stuff to the CPL.
They don't overcharge anyone either.
