MrPuss has now put on 'Saving Private Ryan ' a couple of years ago we went to Normandy and visited the cemeteries of the British, American and Germans who died in the Normandy invasion. The American and British graves were immaculate and it was very aweinspiring but the German graves seemed a bit unreal. The crosses over the British graves and Americans were white but the German crosses were black and not as nicely kept. Has anyone else been to Normandy it is very thought provocing, the trouble was as we got off the car ferry at Portsmouth we said that it would be very good for all teenagers of this day and age to visit it may well bring it home to them what sacrifices these young men gave to keep us free. As we came off the ferry in Portsmouth and turned on the radio it was the very day that the World Trade Centre was attacked so whilst we were still in Normandy mood this news on the radio wiped out all thoughts of the poor souls in the battle to keep our ountry free.
Am I going on too much now...shall I go to bed and shut up, You are free to tell me the truth......pussxx

So how are his privates saved then?
I went on holiday to the Aix region of France basically 20 mins from Disney -stayed in a gite.

We visited the war graves and the Amercan one was like the White House it was awesome -it had had a chapel the lot.
It didnt detract from the other immaculate graves we visited at all.

As a courtesy and also to explain to my kids what war was about we went to the German one.We paid our respsects the same as we did with any of the other young lives who had been lost but it was shoddy compared to the others.

Sad or not?
Hi puss - My uncle is buried in 'ranville' cemetary. I have never been, but my mum has. The veterans did a full military honour for her at the grave as my nanna never had the opportunity to visit her sons grave.
