Sort out the water leak that is getting the inside so damp.
i normally leave my windows open a 1 or a couple of mm's all the time when parked, this helps, any water vapour evaporate
Kitchen or toilet roll, it's better than a shammy.....
Every car I have ever had has been like that, its murder first thing in the morning and it even freezes inside sometimes.
Panic Button - does this mean i have always had a car which has had leaks???
Probably!

Check the element in the pollen filter, in case it is wet.

I have had two old Astras over the years which have had windscreen replacements. Each time they didn't push the mouldings back firmly into place, so a little of the water coming off the screen went into the ventilation system.

If the pollen filter is damp it will not only make the ventilation asthmatic, but will add moisture to the air you are trying to dry the windows with.

Even if it is dry, consider running the ventilation without a pollen filter during the winter months.
If you have air con, run that for 10 mins everyother day, as that has a dehumidifier in it. that will take out a lot of the damp.
I always remove the pollen filter to improve demisting properties. Unless you`ve got air-con or suffer from hay fever I think they`re of little use.
I have used anti fog sprays made by HOLTS before that are for motor bike visors, it works but screen has to be very clean ( and dry! ) first, also make sure all windows are down as it can take your breath away.

There is also an anti fog liquid by the makers of rain-X too.
take car garage, get out car tell to fix

Hope this helpps
ahhh, wonder if i have a pollen filter, didnt in prev cars, will check
lots good advice here thankx, hope its helped avoss too!
I used to have a misted up windscreen that proved to be a leaking heater matrix that eventually dumped its hot water in the foot well at 70mph in the outside lane totally misting ALL the windows in an instant! Get it checked! I almost had an accident through it.

thank you all for all your help. the car doesnt have air con. i dont even think it has a pollen filter? it is a vw golf mk2 1987. i have had 10 of these and every one has done it. on each one, i resealed (properly) all the door membrane/sheets/skins, bypassed the heater matrix (as this was a recall/fault on all mk2 golfs) and still it steams up, and freezes up. i think il never get to the root of the problem, which is why i have asked the best way to clear the windows? im presuming opening all windows, doors if poss, and putting the blower on windscreen on cold when i get to the car in a morning will help? or should it be on hot? and/or is there anything else that will help? everywhere in the car, even under the carpets in bone dry)
