Dell sometimes make it deliberately difficult to change parts on their computers.

They seem to not want people to upgrade them as i guess it makes them difficult to support.

They often used non-standard parts (parts made specially for them) so people could not fit standard parts later.

Not saying you will have a problem, but just be aware.
There are thousands of Dell owners out there. Did it not cross your mind that if you were to mention the actual model you have, someone would be able to give you specific instructions?
the model would help

but you'll have to get into the box .... all the dells I've seen are screwdriverless access.... there will be some sort of clippy thing on the back or side

once in the box you then need to release the drive's catches
and slide it out of the drive bay.

check to see if its an IDE (a 40 wire flat ribbon cable)
or one of the new fangled sata drives (small thin flat cable)

the drive it'self is a standard unit
But you have a couple of problems when ordering a new unit
1 - it will almost certainly be black
(not hard .... but make sure that's what you buy)
2. some dells have a shaped front cover - if your's does
some models of DVD units come with interchangeable front panels .... this makes life easier.
