The first thing I was taught was the three pedals - ABC - acceleration, brake, clutch (but I can't remember whether that was from left to right or right to left).  I learnt to drive for a few months in 1991 but then I went to university and have never done any since, so I've forgotten most of it.  But most of it is the fairly obvious stuff like accelerating in order to move, and turning the steering wheel to steer.  WVNBIVDB

I remember my instructor saying to me, "When you do the test, give the examiner a smooth ride.  Don't worry if you make a mistake - as long as you get yourself out of trouble safely, you'll be OK."

There are some basic rules, in order of importance. 1. Always look in the direction of motion. 2. Always be able to stop if the vehicle in front stops. 3. Alweays drive within the limitation of your forward vision. 4. Treat the lesson as if you were learning to rifle shoot. The equipment you are learning can be just as lethal. 5. Expect all other road users to do the wrong thing. (Sorry if no line breaks. Can't do them on this machine) Keep calm and good luck.

Concentrate on learning the `biting point` of the clutch.

Remember to use your mirrors and indicators.

Learn to do everything slowly before you try to do anything clever.  It all comes good with practice.

Expect the unexpected........every other road user has the potential to kill you.

Relax, be patient, enjoy, and above all...........

Be careful out there!!!
