Forensic doctors, nurses, scientists, psychologists - they are all specialists in their fields but gathering evidence to put before a court of law.

So the police would call forensic experts to provide evidence for their case.

When an offender refuses to admit to what he has done it is sometimes necessary to get forensic reports on fingerprints, blood samples, dna, footprints etc in order to prove that it was the offender and no-one else who committed the crime.
Then when the culprit is faced with overwhelming evidence of his guilt he admits committing the offence and gets credit in the form of a lesser sentence for pleading guilty.
So forensics are an expensive way of proving to an offender what he already knows ie that he committed the crime
