An average size icberg, how long would it take to melt?

I am not sure you could define an average sized iceberg.

not long if the climate was hot enough.

 

I would say at least ten minutes.

A long time, depending on the temperature differences (gradient) between the ice and the ambient air and water.

 

Wasn't there once a project to tow icebergs to Saudi Arabia to provide water for crop irrigation?

 

There was, but it wouldn't have worked.  The idea of "towing" an iceberg to somewhere it doesn't want to go is like ants trying to push a hippopotamus off the edge of a cliff.  TADNSFAE
