Hey there...I have had trouble with my teeth for years and when I was young on the NHS I could get my dental work for free and believe me it is very costly.  The enamel on my teeth wears away very quickly and my teeth begin to chip and break away.  I am now 21 and in full time work but I do not earn enough to pay for my re-enameling and I haven't seen a dentist in about 4 years. They are now very painful and I know I need them done.  So now to the question - is there anyway cheaper do get this done.  It has to be done every couple of years.  ANY SUGGESTIONS please ?

Could you get a referral by your dentist to the Dental Clinic at the hospital to see if they can rectify the problem on a more permanent basis.  The treatment would then be free!  It's a crying shame that people can't afford dental treatment these days.

There are tours that go to eastern european countries for dental work....done at less than half the price in the uk...was an article in the times a while ago.... remember reading it....reported that the work was of a very high standard .....

hope this gives u another option.....good luck....

Alternatively you can get a form 'HC1' (Claim for help with Health Costs) from the Job Centre Plus Offices, NHS hospitals, or  go to this site and request a copy. You can also phone them.

http://www.ppa.org.uk/ppa/low_income.htm

Fill it in and return it to the address with the documents they require. They may be able to help with costs if you are on a low income.

If you haven't seen a dentist for 4 years, you may have to register with a new one, as I think they only keep your details on record for 2 years. Have a look in the phone book, and check if they do NHS work...many these days don't.

Good luck

Do them abroad , in my opinion that's the cheapest alternative!

You can get your wisdom teeth taken out by trainee dentists at universities and places, its all supervised and sometimes you get paid for it. Its worth checking whether they do what you need.

I went to my local university dental hospital where they treated me for free - see the above question on dentistry for my full, cautionary tale.
