Passport question

My mum is applying for her first passport. I have told her that she needs to get it countersigned but she said that applicants don't need their application countersigning anymore because they have an interview instead. Is this true?

From my reading of the UKPA site the interview is in addition to getting the form countersigned, not instead of.

She needs to read note 10 on the 'How to fill in your passport' leaflet. She is incorrect

You are not automatically called for an interview for a first passport

The only way you would not need a countersignatory is if you look exacylt the same on your old passport as you do/did on your old

Ojread2's answer doesn't agree with the information on the UKPA website, which states:
"Passport interviews are a new part of the application process to protect an individual�s identity. They are required by all customers, aged 16 or over, who are applying for a passport for the first time".

OJ, I don't think Chris was challenging you. I think there have been so many changes at the passport office lately, that it's becoming difficult to keep up with.

I was surprised (and saddened) to learn when my passport, that had still a full 5 years remaining, was so full and dog-eared that I had to get it replaced.

The passport office, very kindly phoned me to say I would no longer be receiving my old passport back. Because of they myriad of stamps I had in the passport, particularly the ones on September 11th I was so deeply saddened that what they had printed on paper, saying I would receive the old one back, would no longer happen. I remember the lady lamenting that even the staff couldn't keep up with the changes right now.

Leave it to our government to keep all of us in the dark! :-)

Hi Fr Bill

Oh gosh, no I didn't think he was - Chris' knowledge is vastly superior to mine and I wouldn't question it :) it's just the form I had that was only, at most ,4 weeks old uses the word 'may' on the front of the 'How to fill in your passport' leaflet. It was more myself explaining why I posted what I did :)

I must learn to word things better LOL
