No. 2 is a type of apple. an unusual type but in Bradfords crossword lists, then put it backwards.
53 thebest I can think of is stale bread and lots of discussion has taken place on answerbank about this.58 is what you have if you owe the bank money.
Hope this helps
Sorry given 56 not 58!
58 is a vegetable which is also N.American slang for banknotes
You tend to get more response, if you set down the clue .....

58) Sailor, with a follower, is in prison but has money from North America (7)

The answer you seek is 'money from North America' - a 'slang' word meaning paper money ....

dissecting the cryptic clue:
'Sailor' (2 letter abbreviation) 'with' (+) 'a follower' (i.e. the letter in the alphabet that follows the letter 'a' ) ...
.... you now have 3 letters

'is IN prison' - i.e the above 3 letters are INside a 4 letter word meaning 'prison' ..... not a word associated with the UK, but American where they might put their most fearsome prisoners!!)

{slang words for american paper money often reflect the colour of such paper money - e.g the US one dollar bill is green) .....

finally .... the answer is also the name of a healthy vegetable, where you eat the leaves!!}
