just an interesting idea. Do we, as a society, really need myths to keep us afloat?

In order to realize our potential we need to learn about ourselves and the reality we live in. From there imagination allows us to explore the possibilities this presents to us. Inventing heroes and heroines and speculating about how they deal with situations helps us to visualise what is possible and consider which direction provides the best opportunity for becoming more than what we were and better than how we are. In this way myths can help us or hinder our progress depending on the quality of thought and vision that goes into the creation of them.

We have a need not only to keep afloat but to rise to a higher plane. Stagnation stifles spirit. However progress is only truly achieved when what we believe to be progress proves to be so in the long run. Momentary gains can prove to be an illusion when it comes time to pay the fiddler.

Myths have helped us to arrive at where we are but a given myth can only take us so far. From there it comes time to reassess the reality the myth has brought us to and to create new myths that have the potential to guide us to the next level.
