Hi all, please help me settle something with my folks. I think it was last Saturday that The Sun had a story about the Red Arrows not being able to fly at the 2012 olympics. They claimed that it was because the Red Arrows were too british and had too much of a military background and some people might not like it or something along those lines.
So anyway, my folks were outraged by this and I told them that it's probably total rubbish, just the Sun trying to cause a stir etc. They wouldn't accept this at all, saying that papers aren't allowed to lie these days due to being taken to court.
It was a 'slap my hand to my forehead' sort of moment. My dad thinks that everything the Sun says is true...

So what do you reckon? Is it true, or is the Sun telling little fibs to get a reaction, as I imagine?

There's a simple solution though, make sure all the pilots are ethnic minorities and muslims and their appearance will be guaranteed, if not compulsory.
Its true im afraid.....petition here to make them fly!!

I wouldn't believe the Sun newspaper for anything. My mum is exactly the same as your dad by the sound of it,she never reads any other paper and treats all their articles as gospel.
If the Red Arrows are too British for the Olympics then Britain must also be too British so they wouldn't be able to hold them here...Maybe our athletes won't be able to wear British team colours or hold the UK flag either.lol
I do think the Sun may have their wires crossed again.
Yeah but if we did that whiffey they'd be flying into canary wharf!!!
I think the Sun made it up...

"RED ARROWS SAY OLYMPICS BAN FEARS ARE 'UNFOUNDED'

Aerobatics team the Red Arrows has moved to scotch rumours that it has been banned from performing at the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony.

A national newspaper and numerous websites have reported that event organisers believe the Lincolnshire-based team's military background "might offend other nations".

It is alleged that the Department for Culture, Media and Sport ruled last week that the RAF Scampton squad is "unsuitable" and "not in keeping with the event as they were too militaristically British".

But team spokesman Rachel Huxford said: "We have had no discussions about the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics whatsoever.

"We are still planning our 2008 season at this stage and that is a long way off. We understand that no decision has yet been made about the ceremony.

"We performed when London won its Olympic bid in 2005 after we received a standard request from the Olympic organisers."

That said, I hope they come up with something a bit more imaginative than the bleedin Red Arrows (Again) for the Opening Ceremony.

She added that none of the team's pilots had spoken to the national newspaper about the rumour.
Could be or then again it might not be, you take your choices, no one seems to be commiting themselves, at the moment.

Here is the official line.
