My sister has just received deliver of a new leather suite - a 3 seater and and 2 seaters. Is a bit different in size to what she previously had and the best position for the 2 seater seems to be partially in front of a radiator. The issue isnt that it will be blocking heat but that it will damage the sofa. Is there anything she can do to help this rather than move sofa or radiator?
thanks

Its a difficult one here as the heat will almost certainly dry out or damage the leather.

Does the radiator have a heat control valve on it? That way you could turn it off all together then it wouldn't damage the sofa.

Alternatively you could get one fitted for a lot cheaper price than moving the radiator.

thanks for your response. It does have a control valve but really would not want to switch off totally so as you say would cause damage to the leather. I think she was wondering if there was something she could do to protect the sofa at the bit that was covering the radiator - hopefully someone would have some idea.
ive had a leather suite for nearly 10 years now and its always been near a radiator, ive had no trouble with mine, maybe the quality of the leather has a lot to do with it
I'm the same, the only logical place to put one of my sofas was in front of the radiator, and although I haven't had the radiator on all the time, it has been on in winters and the leather is exactly the same in the back of both sofas, no damage at all done by the heat
U could cover the back of the leather sofa with aluminion foil that way the heat would reflect back into the room and not harm the sofa. I am not sure if you will get damage on the sofa from using sticky tape though? Try using sticky tac first to see if that sticks.

Just an idea?
The tin foil works, but looks a bit naff if able to see. You could box the radiator in (tastefully) and have 'slits' in the top part so all the heat rose up instead of out? This would in effect create a convection heater rather than a radiator but hey, this isn't GCSE physics...!
We are just in the process of buy leather furniture but we have thermostatic valves so can adjust the rad rather than the whole room , so think one of those be the answer , or move the sofa as far away as poss. Mc N, reply was a positive one so the options are yours , Good Luck and happy lounging !!
My sofa has been next to a radiator for years and they are exactly the same as when I bought them
it will be ok, just make sure that you treat the leather as you would skin and keep it moisturised with leather cream as the heat will dry it out and it will crack easily.
