Why cant we contact othgerAB members?

On KaZaA-Lite and Winmx there is a way to send a message to another user. I thought it would be a friendly option for AB to have such a thing. Do you agree or have suggestions?

I guess this site is for everyone to share information which precludes private correspondence. We all know the site's opinion on chat.

I appreciate your answer and it is an option for AB members to try, but i still think that it would be good for a link from AB.

Yes, you are correct j2buttonsw and thank you for pointing it out. However, dont you sometimes wish to contact the people who you develop a repore with? The previous answer from xyzzy@bok gives us this option at http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/answerbok/ which is an excellent group and fun to be in, but surely AB is missing out here.

As a member of the abok group I think it's a great idea, as we are able to CHAT about threads that the AB ED would otherwise inhibit, it's a chance for like minded individuals to come together to debate/argue/chat about topics which we can post menial answers to here.

The answers are fine, but not answering my question. The AB Ed may even delete all of this now, which is a pity because the purpose of my question was not to affect the integrity of AB or its aims. My Q was a genuine intersest in talking to like minded members of this fine community.

Because they are technophobes and unwilling to perform the simple task of adding an additional section the idea of doing something as mind blowing as being able to contact peopl is just too far out. They can't even remove the new from the adverts section after a year.

You may have a point BadBob. Such feature would, I am sure, increase the popularity of AB and give it an extra dimention. I have mailed the AB ED in the past about a similar thing and of course we must respect how they want this site to be run. My opinion is, without the members (like a football club), AB would not survive, yet the opinions of its "supporters" are not taken on board. You could of course join the group mentioned in a previous post by xyzzy@bok and give it a try.

Thanks for the interest but to reiterate what has already been suggested: this site is for the open exchange of knowledge. At its heart lies the archive and, if everyone were sharing that knowledge privately via email, the archive would wither and the site with it. So we prefer to keep the information and knowledge out front and in public.

Thanks for not deleting the Q ED, its appreciated. Just to explain to you my point, the best place for questions is here on AB, no one disputes that. Some of us would like a "coffee shop" where we can ask where we live, what we do etc. thats all. Somewhere we can be more "friendly". I have always maintained the right of AB to run it as they think is right and my opinion on that has not changed. My question was just a question. Asking AB users what their thoughts were. Thanks again for your tollerance. :o)
