I have one desktop pc - Windows XP.
Can I connect this pc wirelessly to a modem router in another room with a telephone point without having to use an ethernet cable and using a USB adaptor or do I have to get another telepone socket fitted in the same room as the pc?
Thanks in advance.

Yes you can. The computer will work fine if you get a PCI or USB wireless adapter.
