My borther in law recently won a green card lottery. On the form they asked if he had any criminal record. He said "No" but the answer is "Yes". He was caught selling drugs when he was on Transite viza from Bombay to Tanzania. He was sentenced to jail for 3 years. This happeend 13 years back.

DO you think the US embassy can get the record of his criminal record as this happeend 13 years back and also he was on transit viza. His passport doesnt have any stamp of dubai.

Do you think he should lie ????

if it is on his british record, then yes they will find out about it,as they will do a crb check on him,but i doubt it is on his record here unless the india or tanzania goverments informed the british, did he get deported back to england,if he did then it will be on his record.

Well .. he has never been to engalnd. He is trying to come to US. He won a green card lottery for US. He was caught in dubai and was in Jail for 3 years in dubai. After that he was relased; he went to Tanzania.

Now he has to fill a form for Greencard in US. In that he lied by saying he had no criminal record. He feels that there is no way the US emabassy can trace that as his record in India and Tanzania is clear. The wouldnt trace Dubai as they wont know that he traveled to dubai as he was just on trasit viza when this happeend. Also, his passport doesnt have any stamp of Dubai.
he might be lucky then, but your past always seems to catch up with you in the end.
