Not exactly 80's throwback. The Darkness are very much tongue in cheek, they don't take themselves seriously the way they did in the 80's. They completey send up the 80's glam rock bands and I'm sure they're having a brilliant time doing it.
Just to be pedantic, I think they are more of a 70s throwback than an 80s one. Their influences seem to be the likes of Slade, Led Zep, Rainbow although I will agree that there is also a spattering of Europe and Bon Jovi in there too.
Although I understand that they're tongue in cheek, I just don't find them at all amusing and would be happy never to hear another of their outpourings.
I think there are elements of Saxon and Van Halen included as well. The first track on the album (can't remember the song title) is definately influenced by AC/DC.
Well their richer than me and more popular so good luck to them. The public like them in general, their album is doing brilliantly. Just hope the new album is as successful.
I genuinely believe they started off as a serious band, but found themselves being touted as a " clever, 70/80's pi$$-take of a band" by mistake! And ever since gullible people have been jumping on the bandwagon ( and probably being laughed at by the band members! ). Stand up ( the god-awful ) Jo Whiley.
i think the darkness are well class! i have become a real fan of this band and i have made alot of friends from being a 'darkling' and i think that not alone is the music 'pure class' as they say, but their fan base is like no other, and if that means that some people feel they are an 80's throwback well every1 is entitled to thier opinions. i for one hope the darkness are around for a long time yet!
