A lot do get stranded. Our home town of Lewes in East Sussex flooded back in 2000 and my mate lost all his goldfish from his pond but gained some sticklebacks from the local stream.
They definitely get stranded, reminds me of when we had floods in North Wales last year a mate of mine was driving through water about 1ft deep and a salmon landed on the bonnet of his van, he grabbed a hammer out of the back went to hit the salmon, slipped smashed the hammer into the bonnet the salmon jumped again and he was left with a massive dent in the van, serves him right, and he got drenched, so funny.
i suppose it's possible that as the water subsides the fish from the rivers might end up down the roadside drains and end up in the sewers too
