My son's laptop won't work it says there is a 'NST' file missing-he thinks he may have moved an NST file but not deleted it?? it won't boot up at all we are trying to restore it using a system search disk but its already been 24 hrs and its still at it. My main worry is that we have just been on hols and all our photo's are on there, we don't want to wipe the hard drive can anyone make any suggestions?? TIA

Just because you cant boot your system does not mean you have lost your files, you can hook your laptop hard drive up to another pc as a slave & copy them off that way if all else fails. What o/s are you using xp ?
You may be able to repair it:

Its a bit complex, if not just get a boot disk and try re-installing windows.
After you've copyed your files over.
BTW: i thought NST files were audio files?
they are, which wouldnt really stop a boot !

Cheers we're still trying- we're on windows xp and my other half has been able to read the hard disk, I will mention hooking up to our desktop pc and getting the photo's off- thats all we're bothered about really
if you hook it up to your desktop you will need a 2.5 to 3.5 ide adapter, a few from any good parts site.
