How can I access the internet with my laptop - do I need to include wireless card and wireless base router when I purchase it? I have broadband on my desktop computer at home.

Your laptop will have the same connectivity options as a PC- you don't need a wireless card as a cable will work. Simply unplug the Broadband modem from your PC, plug it in to your laptop. Reload the modem software and away you go
You can do what I've done, which is put a wireless network card in the laptop and one in desktop PC. Now I can reach the broadband from the laptop, anywhere in range of the house (claimed to be up to 100 m). If you want to connect to the internet elsewhere, you will of course also need a dial-up modem card for the laptop.
