do it in a place where everyone is deaf ....
Put masking tape diagonally across the glass and diagonally from the other direction. When the glass is broken it will not shatter everywhere.
but there will still be a sound of hammer/implement hitting masking tape
We're not much good at reading minds on here Kiwi the 1st although we try to help as much as we can.

It might have been better if you said smash in your first post. We're not deaf either so there's no need to shout.
People in the movies always use a suction cup thing to hold onto the glass and a glass cutter to cut out a hole.

Would that work in real life?
You could easily melt the glass with an oxi/ace flame, which is silent, apart from the noise of the burner.

If it is a trick Q, make sure there is no-one home or around at the farmer 's house and go for your life. Nobody will hear you.
Llamatron, the guys on Mythbusters tried the thing with the suction cup and decided it wasn't possible. I think the cutter made too much noise and the suction cups weren't reliable enough.
Kiwi, it depends on the situation. If it's a small-ish window, it's probably easier and quieter to remove the entire windowframe than trying to cut the glass.
But if you want to SMASH the glass as you say in your first post, cover the glass with sticky back plastic on both sides if possible and use a spring loaded centre punch. This will shatter the glass and the stick back plastic should stop the glass falling. Shoudl be fairly quiet too but I'd imagine it would be difficult to get the glass out...
this appears to me a very sus question - or am i being sus?
