I was driving home from work very early this morning on a dual carriageway and there was barely any traffic on the road. I could see several magpie in the middle of the road and not wanting to run over them, I slowed down so I could give them a chance to fly away. Then some idiot drives past me in the other lane at about 100mph and just plowed right through them squashing at least three of them. It was awful and really upset me.

My question is, would you do the same as I did and slow down (obviously not putting yourself or others in danger!) and allow them to fly off.
Or would you just plow on through and continue your journey?

Ive never hugged a tree but I used to be a tree surgeon.

I used to be an avid rabbit and fox hunter, and then a Pest Controller, so I know all about killing, both taught me an immense amount about animals and that life is as important to them as it is for us, we have no right to kill just because we cant appreciate its presence or don't like its place in nature!!
whiffey you are so harsh!!!
No right to kill ?

Who on here who eats meat actually knows what goes on in slaughterhouses ? The way chickens suspended upside down on the conveyor as they head for the electrocution bath pathetically raise their heads as if they know what awaits them just to fill the shelves in Asda at 2 for 4.

Magpies are small potatoes, vile croaking vermin.
I quite agree!! but that is a different subject, we are talking about killing for the hell of it!! not to eat!!
I'm surprised he got them. I drive for a living and in my experience magpies have fantastic road sense. They skip out of the way, and if you look in your rear view mirror they are back pecking the dead rabbit in no time.
lol @ joe, I suggest you leave the woman driver ramblings at home when you go on a date with a woman.

that kinda thing would make them think you were a bit of a tw@t !!!
I slow for all the local wildlife, Snow White needs her housework done and Cinderella needs a dress for the Ball.
Res'pec' the animals peeps!
I have never known a bird to be hit by a speeding car, they have better Radar than ..well,,,,,,radar O'Reilly
No fine, thanks I'm not a vegan, I wish I had the moral fibre to be one but all I am is a vegetarian. Nor do I take mind bending drugs johnlambert, but I am initiated in Reiki which I think opened me up to the vibes of other living things. RATTER15 I like your NOW philosophy and agree with it 100%, whiffey, I hope you come back as a cat!

It does seem though that most of us, for one reason or another, think it's wrong to kill deliberately.
i would laugh if i witnessed such an event. however be warned i know of a case where some geezer crossed to the oppersite carridgeway of an A road to run over a phesant. one of the magistrates was high up in the the RSPB and gave him 9 points.
Well said Ratter x

I would never deliberately hurt anything so I'd do the same as you Emz26, I'd slow down and let them get out of the way.
