lump on neck

Our labrador cross has developed a lump at the back of her neck, just above where her collar goes. It doesn't seem to be giving her any bother, and feels like a large jelly tot, smaller than the size of half a tennis ball.

Apart from this, she is in perfect health and it does not annoy her when it is touched. She is a rescue dog so we are not sure of her exact age but we think she is about 8 years old. She had her injections 2 weeks ago in the same place and it was definitely not there then.

We are taking her to the vets tonight (we discovered it at the weekend and this is the first time the vets is open) but would anyone have any idea what it could be? Obviously the first thing that came into our head was cancer, but are there any other dog owners or vets out there who have come across this before?

It could well be something caused by the injection. Sometimes they do get a reaction from the injection. I had a dog that had lumps after her boosters in later life.

Because of the speed of it and the 'coincidence' of the nearness to the injection I would not suspect cancer or anything drastic like that.

It is probably a simple cyst or something, your vet will probably reassure you.
My dog also has what I consider to be an injection site sarcoma (lump). It is quite a hard lump but is clearly not attached and I have been reassured that it's nothing to worry about .. though I have kept an eye on it, it has stayed the same size for probably almost 2 years now .. doesn't bother him atall.

Thanks for your answers, it turned out to be a reaction to the injection! They gave her another one and it has slowly disappeared until there is hardly anything there now!
