Does anyone suffer with night terrors? I don't know for sure that this is what I am experiencing but it seems the most likely explanation. Its not regular... maybe every few weeks.

I appear to wake in the middle of the night, and i really beleive that what is happening in my dream is really there. I get palpitations and usually leap from my bed taking my duvet with me (usually something is chasing me or someone is my room trying to hurt me)

Last night i woke with this 3 times.. one time someone was shouting at me and it didnt sound like it was in my dream but that they were trying to wake me up.

Like i say this only happens maybe every few weeks. but they are terrifying and I am truely petrified in the night. The dreams always seem to be as if I am awake in my room.

I also dream that animals are attacking me or there are ghosts/spirits etc haunting me in my room. i do not watch horrors or anything of the sort as I am a wuss so its not what I am watching.

Does anyone have any advise. Am very tired today as I never get any sleep when it happens. My boyfriend is away abroad and I actually called him at 1am 3am and 4am which i am aware of but i was so scared i needed to talk to him.

Oh I also get them when he is here so its not because he is away.

hi OS.......... i have these quite a lot, the last one i had was last week and i dreamt i was flying over my town looking at everybodys fencing (i am a fencing contractor) but the plane i was in was gonna crash then it would be ok again..... it doesnt sound half as bad as it did in my dream but it frightened the hell outa me.

but most the time i dream i am having conversations with my dead best mate, its so real, but obviously when i wake up it puts me in a downer as its only a dream?

an answer to cure it................. to "specialists" will try and tell you hat your stressed no doubt?
Does it correlate with anything you have eaten or drunk during the evening ? e.g. Chinese food, cordials containing additives, etc.

If I eat Chinese food in the evening, I have awful dreams and a muzzy MSG headache the next day.
My daughter gets them every so often, she will start screaming (real piercing ones) then I will rush it to her room to see whats wrong, she will be staring at the wall or the curtains then freaking out and trying to escape from the monster/ghost/animal

I have found that she seems to get these when she is stressed (she had tests all week and she broke friends with her classmate)

To a lesser degree I get a similar thing where I keep waking up and sitting up bolt upright in bed and I see all sorts of strange things (shadows, distorted furniture), I have pinpointed this down to stress as well.

I sympathise with you though it is awful!!, I cant offer much in the way of advice except to try to relax more, de stress your life, dont go to bed over thinking about stuff (my daughter does that)

My doctor advised me to take a sleeping pill (like a herbal one) to relax me more if it got too bad, although I am trying the de-stress route first!
I get sleep paralysis, I've had fights with octopuses, chase spiders, had a body drop down into my body etc

Hiya OS
You have been through alot of worry and extra stress these last months and i think it is probably all part of your brain not being able to make sense of life in general.

It may be that you subconciously feel afraid of the future and so you are occasionally letting your demons out, I think you maybe need something calming, pop to the Chinese herbalist and see if they can help.
Oh I didn't know he had revovered well enough to join his unit, then you are probably worried that something else will happen to him so that makes even more sense I guess.
I don't wake with mine but apparently I cry and shout a lot in my sleep. I have a lot of dreams where I a running away from things that scare me. I am very aware that these things happen during periods of stress in my life.
OS, are you a heavy snorer by any chance?

Dot he went back to lebanon 3 weeks ago but have slept fine till now! He will be home in 6 weeks for a week and needs to get his new prosphetic leg fitted. he is doing so well he is such an inspiration, I am very proud to be his partner.

Stressed seems to be the most common comment here, i guess it could be but didnt feel particulary stressed last night and wouldnt say i ate anything different...

am glad I am not alone x
i think that your body does wonderful things to help you through times of stress, as you have recently had. ive found that once i come out of the stressful period, is when i start to see symptoms. its like your body needs to do this to process the stress, but it cant do while having the actual stress. does that make sense? its like with excema, its ok when im going through stress, but flares up once the stress has finished.
