I know theres been a couple of threads on this, but i'm travelling to the US next year and was convicted of drink driving 18 months ago. Would it be worth applying for a visa, or should i just tick no on the conviction waiver form , would drink driving convictions show on the immigration databases?

Thanks

Drink driving for some bizarre reason is not regarded as a crime involving moral turpitude in the US so you can tick the no box without lying.

Canada's another matter....

Thanks dzug, but do you not have to declare if you have been arrested?
that's the catch.

the embassy asks 'have you ever been arrested, even if not convicted of any crime'

the waiver form asks 'have you ever been arrested for a crime of moral turpitude'

hi steady_eddie. I went tothe US 3 weeks ago and returned last weekend. I too have a drink driving conviction from 4 years ago. The VWP documentation states that and I quote if you have been arrested or convicted for an offence or crime of moral terpitude or a drug related offence or have been arrested or convicted of 2 or more offences for which the total sentence was 5 years or more, or been a drug trafficker or are you seeking entry to engage in criminal or immral activities you must tick the yes box. I ticked the no box and had no trouble in getting through immigration. I hope this puts your mind at rest

Thanks Bull and Munch

Mind rested.
You'll be fine, DWI/DUI is not Moral Turpritude; rather it is seen as a violation of yourself more than a violation of society in general.

Tick the visa waiver box yes (I'm not guilty), you will not be lying, you'll be fine.

I'm done it 10 or so times these last 2 years (AND Immigration know of my charge as it was in the US)
