Here in cow country, western U.S., about a gallon of common mineral oil used as a drench (using drench tube or drench bit) applied to the adult ruminant (cow)animal every 12 to 14 hours until impaction eliminated (no pun intended)... Treatment depends on the age and size of the animal. Some stockmen I know add about 1/2 bottle of milk of magnesia to the oil. Commercially available treatments are available for small animals as well... Persistent impaction requires a veterinarian's assistance...
