In January 05 I had an operation called Z-plasty at the bottom of my back. Although the scar is a Z shape it goes around 6 inches up my back. The area is completely numb and there is still a huge lump under the scar (almost like swelling). At first I was told this would go down after about 18 months but almost 2 and a half years on it is still very much there. Does anyone know if this will go down at all? When I had it done my surgeon told me that this operation was often used for cosmetic purposes (not in my case) so does the fact that mine is still very visible and raised mean that they have done a bad job?

Thanks. That's why I asked on here because google provided no results that made any sense to me.

I don't think it could be a keloid scar as I don't suffer any pain or itchyness from it and it doesn't change colour, as far as I know.
milly, if this area still causes some concern why not get a referral to a consultant for their opinion ?
