My 10 mth old male cat seems to have been traumatised. What can I do?
My cat, usually full of fun & never aggressive came home other night and seemed visibly terrified. Dont know if someone or another cat has hurt/frightened him. I took him to vet who gave him painkiller & antibiotic jabs but there was no sign of wounds/pain. Since bringing him home, he's stayed under the bed in a dark corner. I tried to coax him out with treats, he came so far then hissed and ran back under. Any suggestions? Should I leave him be and hope he comes round in his own time or persevere with trying to coax him out? Thanks.

Is there a stray arrived in your area thats terrorising the local cats? We have one here and it cost me �50 yesterday for treatment to Dylans leg that the stray attacked!

The problem with cats is that they look so calm and serene but are infact easily stressed.
I hope that he has wandered onto some other cat's territory - he will know not to that again.
But if some bully has entered your cats territory it is not so easily solved.
I hope that he comes out from under the bed soon. Poor thing is miserable.

It could be other cats - or it could have been some kids (or 'adults') up to no good...either way, I'd spend some time with him to reassure him everything's OK. Try to get near him, whereever he's hiding, and just settle down quietly for a bit (might be a bit uncomfortable) and give him some soothing strokes.
The best thing for shock is dark and quiet, so leave him where he is for now. Maybe put a water bowl and some food down near to his hiding place so he doesnt dehydrate.
I adopted an older cat and this happened to her when she was first let out - turns out nexts doors two huge male cats had taken a dislike to her!
She did come round eventually, although is very scared of going out still and will only do so if Iam around to chase them off for her!!
He will be fine Im sure, just had a nasty scare that will probably only make him become less of a 'curious cat' in the future! Hope he is ok!
