if its mot meningitis what can it be

a family members little boy is ill in hospital and they are treating him as if he has meningitis but saying to his mum that they are not sure??
what else has the same symtoms?? me and my family are worrried and his mum is scared as no one wants to explain anything to her?? please help x

Hi, last year my little boy was sent to hospital and they suspected meningitis, they put antibiotics in a drip as thats what they would do even if they knew it was meningitus, thats what they told me and after a few days ( i think) they took fluid from his spine to know 100%< he thankfully didnt have it but it was the worst few days of my life< a nurse told me that you only ever hear the worst on the news etc but mostley she said they are fine>They never knew what he had>
i hope the little boy gets better soon and my heart goes out to his mum
