Does anyone else think that it's a bit hypocritical for people to judge an average joe for taking drugs but then turn around and say they love a certain bands music, when half the songs that band ever wrote and recorded was done while thay were mashed off their faces on coke or whatever. Naming no names, but we all know it's happened/happening.

I dont think it is hypocritical. If you like a song or a bands collection o fmusic, does it really matter if they were mashed when they wrote it? How are we to know for sure? I havent heard of too many bands who have openly admitted they only write songs if they are fcuked out of their heads before. I agree it probably does happen though. If someone judges someone else for taking drugs then its their right to their opinion but I dont think there is anything wrong about liking a particular type of music regardless of whether the band are junkies or not. If you were to judge a person on that basis then where does it end? I like food but so do junkies...does that make me a hypocrite if I think drugs are bad for you and that I dont like junkies? Does it make me a hypocrite because I have smoked hash before but hate junkies? I dont think it does but it will probably get you going again! I hate junkies cos they rob, steal and live off our tax contributions not because they take drugs. Hey you are entitled to your opinion mate. Take it easy. AirJ.

What the heck are you rambling on about Airj, did you even read what I wrote. It looks a bit like you just seen the word drugs and went away mental altogether. I say I feel that it's hypocritical for people to give out about drug use but then listen to and love drug induced music. You take that and go off talking about junkies out robbing old dears or whatever. I said nothing about myself being anti drugs either. Don't take this as a rant.
Firstly -
Airj- Quote 'I havent heard of too many bands who have openly admitted they only write songs if they are fcuked out of their heads before'
Have you never heard of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Who, Stone Roses, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, Pete Docherty, Nirvana, Ozzy, Keane, Bowie, Johnny Cash, Paul Simon, Oasis, Robbie, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Tim Buckley, Sid Vicious, Keith Moon, Elvis Presley, John Bonham.. This is crazy there are hundreds.
How can you make that statement! What a terribly uneducated thing to say.

On a similarly uneducated point, you also state that 'junkies', as you so politely label drug users, 'rob, steal and live off our tax' which is crap.
Most drug users I know are intelligent, decent, honest, people who work for a living, work to buy their drugs, and PAY tax, just like you! They just choose to have a certain lifestyle which includes drugs.

Certainly i'd rather be a drug user than a narrow minded bigot like your comments suggest you may be.

Styley - in response to the original question - yes I do think it is hypocritical, people seem to have a view that drugs are bad, yet they forget that most of the great people who have ever lived were drug users. And not just musicians, think Picasso, Van Gough, Freud, Conan Doyle, Lewis Carol, Dickens, Keates, Sir Walter Scott, Robert Louis Stevenson, Shelley, George Washinton.. to name a few!

Open your mind..

Lknowsbest I absolutely agree with you 100% and couldnt have put it better myself - most people I know who take drugs are professional people who are very well educated and in high paying jobs and choose now and again to buy drugs at the weekend after a hard week at work. And why shouldnt they? Its normally people who have no first hand knowledge of drugs that fly off the handle in a very ignorant way as displayed above. The comment about the bands not taking drugs is ridiculous - Noel G once said that having a line for him was like having a cup of tea not one of his finer moments but was very well documented at the time. In fact the list of non-drug takers in music art and literary world would be shorter! Also authors ie Lewis Carrol
