infrared port on psp

hi guys, i have an ir port on my psp which - obviously is not uncommon but wots it for??? pardon my ignorance but nafink is mentioned in the manual about it - all pspers look in your manuals - unless i missed it but it's not mentioned there.
it might be to do with gameplay but i just wondered if you could move info from mobile phones etc by it .
plse help very confused tia.

I found this on the PSP site:

Finally, and most oddly, the PSP sports an IR port that currently serves no function. According to online posts, the PSP might be able to be operated via an IR remote, and maybe even be able to control a TV or two. I suppose we will have to wait to see how this plays out!

tell me about it, i thought innocently that it might support ir info exchange which should be possible with recent technology i suppose we will have to see!!
