is there any recommended ways of dealing with a very boisterous whippet puppy. he is 16 weeks and while much of it is youthful exuberance, he gets too excitable and sometimes quite nasty when he is playing, ie jumping up, biting, scratching.

Meanwhile, 2 quick tips - if he hurts you, tell him so in puppy language, ie cry like a hurt puppy.

He probably gets attention when he jumps up, it may be displeasure but it is still attention. So if he jumps up, turn your back and ignore him, do not look, speak to or touch him. As soon as he is quiet and down, give him lots of praise and attention.

Get the book! Good luck.
