Every time I've started Windows XP recently, I've been greeted with a message saying "Windows cannot find svcroot.exe" What is svcroot.exe, and how do I find it?

Sounds like you might have a virus, or at least the remains of one. I suggest that you update your virus checker and run a scan. I would also suggest running a spy-ware scan too. If you need some tools to help you do this, search for SpyBot and AVGFree (two examples, others are available). I'd also recommend cleaning out all your temporary files before running these scans - search for CCleaner.

I used to get this with something called firedaemon.the only way i could get rid of it was to click start>run and then type in msconfig.exe this will then open a new window with tabs along the top.select start-up and scroll down thru the progs listed and you should find the to which you refer simply untick it.
