dvd ripped avi file compress?

i have a dvd ripped avi file but i tried windows own compression and winzip and it wont compress at all -i get no messages telling me its uncompressible , is this type of file uncompressible? how could i compress it?

Avi files are often already compressed. You wont be able to shrink them down anymore, perhaps 1 or 2%. If you need to shrink it, to fit it on cd or something, you'll have to use a program such as dr. divx to re-encode it. This will lose some quality.
