I was wondering if anyone has spotted a similarity between this book and W.M.Thackeray's novels, mostly The Memoirs of Barry Lyndon, and secondly also Vanity Fair. Is Pius Mulvey a much darker version of Barry Lyndon? Has anybody noticed an influence of famous authors/novels on this book? I thought there were but could not pinpoint them while I was reading it.
