The previous owners of the house that I moved into a month ago apparently decided not to re-direct their mail. Therefore I get it all and am expected to forward it to them. I asked them why they hadn't redirected it and they said it was expensive!! Now the odd letter, fair enought, but they get loads and loads of catalogues left for them, some huge, every time I come home there is yet another pile in my front porch, and it is driving me nuts now. Am I legally obliged to keep forwarding all this on when they clearly haven't bothered to tell anybody they have moved? What would you all do?

I had this problem when i lived at my previous address. The previous owners had moved out and moved into the flat above their new business. For months I was getting mail for them and i kept binning it... until one day I got something from the tax office. Turns out they had listed the address as their offices and they were claiming money back on it!!! I made a few phone calls and as far as I know, they had a lovely visit off the men in blue!! I have to admit, I am much happier now I have moved again...

lol@ kitty and pa_ul.

Hi Pink,

I had the same problem x 10 because the silly bar stewards owed thousands in debt.

I stopped the post office delivering their letters by writing to the manager at the sorting office.

It stopped immediately. The post office then RTS the letters and charge for it.

You are not their secretary!!! cheeky sods. What about the gas and electricity and council tax? I take it they were informed.

:-) big smiles to you.... xxx

Well I told all the utility suppliers anyway but it just gets me soooo mad!

Maybe I should start openeing their mail and then forwarding the opened letters to them - bet that makes them soon order a re-direction! lol
don't open their mail lol.... not a good idea. errrr, summink about it being illegal hehe.....

One other thing I did was forward their mail to their solicitor for him to forward to them. That will get the message through.
have a word with your postie pinky.
if he's any sort of decent footie man he'l only deliver mail for you and your family. all the rest he can deal with at the D.O where he will kill it off and forward it to belfast or portsmouth for redirection or destruction.
charge them for doing it!

tell them if they want their mail redirected, they are to provide you with stickers with their new address on, and a set of 'redirect' to stickers (as your arthritis plays up if ypu write *wink*) and pay a service charge of 29.00 per month.

if this isn't paid, all mail will be left in a cardboard box in your garden for them to pick up at their own convenience

you could also write on the envelopes 'return to sender' - that way the companies know they are no longer living there. put the new address on it so that the companies can update their records.

you MUST either get the post office to 'return to sender - unknown at this addy' or do that yourself. any 'debts' are usually linked to the address (per Equifax etc) and yes, the baliffs WILL turn up at your door. you must spend time and get this sorted or your own financial position may be at risk.
