As Pea Pod says, a lot of free access site - including the AB - are financed from adverts.

The site owners will be able to provide statistics demonstrating how often the site is visited or 'hit' as the jargon says - obviously the more hits, the more the ads. are seen, and by the law of averages, the more people will react to the ads. shown.
