The recent Carling advert to the Hard-Fi song Living For The Weekend which features flocks of birds has got us wondering if it is genuine footage or part doctored.

Does anyone know if this is real and if so where was it filmed?

Thanks

hello,

I think it is real footage as I have seen it happen over Brighton pier a couple of years ago, it was amazing to watch. I've also seen similar clips on nature programmes, but I don't know anything about the actual footage they use, sorry!
Not only genuine footage, but quite mundane genuine footage at that. Don't know where it was filmed, but come to Scotland and you can see displays like that all the time. Really - it's just a very very common everyday sight here. The ad's a bit of a yawn for us!
I think it is from David Attenboroughs Life of Birds which was recently repeated on UKTV History nature sundays and it looks familiar.

It is not mundane even if you are lucky enough to live in an area where it happens every day I think it is quite stunning everytime I see it.

Hope I am right.
It certainly is real, my mum and dad go to the local football team every home match (Northampton Town FC), and they are always commenting on the displays that the starlings are putting on.Over the lake which is just behind the Stadium. its normally at dusk. Mum sometimes watches that rather than the football cause its more exciting (particularly at the moment).
I doubt the BBC would have licensed their footage for a Carling ad - and it would be much easier for the ad agency to just send someone out to do their own filming for ten minutes anyway. It's a weird ad though- the song really doesn't fit at all, it would have been much better with just the bird noises. (And isn't that telly ad with the exploding paint improved by the lack of music as well?)
bill oddie showed it on bbc naturewatch
