we are looking at buying a house with no lawn area, there is a large yard at the back which we could convert all or part of into lawn but it has high walls and doesn't get much sun, will the grass be ok

Grass like most plants do better with a bit of sunlight.Lawns in too much shade become full of moss.
You can but good quality turf that grows in shady areas. Ours grows well at the bottom of the garden under the trees.
