My car won't start outside my house so I need someone to come and start it for me. Green Flag are looking for a one off 75 because Im not a member, do all the breakdown companies have the same policy? I could waith 24 hours but I imagine most companies would be suspicious if I called them out so soon after joining so I'd rather be up front about it.

most of them are around the 80 mark to include home start, why dont you ask the local garage to come and have a look, could be cheaper,do you know why it wont start, any symptoms

The only one I could see in the yellow pages that did home recovery charge 75 and I think that was just to tow it rather than do any repairs.

The engine turns over it but just won't start so I don't think it is the battery. Ive been told by a friend its either a problem with the spark plugs or a fuelling problem.

why dont you phone a mobile mechanic, and get it sorted.it sounds as if it needs a good service and check over, look in your local paper for the mobile mechanic
Call someone like Home Tune or similar franchises who come to your home and use Crypton electronics to check and tune your engine. Well worth the thirty quid or so.
The one I used to use always checked the tappets first, before doing anything else. That's worth 30 at least !
Breakdown cover is basically an insurance policy. Expecting to get someone out, without additional charge, as soon as you join is a bit like waiting for your house to burn down and then expecting an insurance company to back-date a policy to cover you. i.e. nobody will do it.

If, despite that, you're still looking for a recommendation for breakdown cover which includes 'home start', I suggest Autonational Rescue. Their full package (including home start, recovery, accommodation expenses, etc) costs 88 per year but that's reduced to just 66 if you've not had a breakdown in the past 12 months. Additionally, new members get their first 15 months cover for the price of 12.

Thanks for the responses.

Having phoned around a few places 75 is relatively cheap. It turns out it includes an hours labour and a tow to a garage if needed.

There doesn't seem to be any mobile mechanics in my area, only the odd garage that comes and tows your car away at great expense. The car was serviced by Honda at the start of the winter.

I wasn't necessarily expecting no additional cost, just thought it was quite steep at first.
