Can anyone tell me what the pictures were called which were made up entirely of dots and to produce an image you had to stare at the centre of the page until the picture 'came out'. They were very popular about 10 years ago. J.

I have three books of them. Two of them refer to the pictures as stereograms and the other calls them Magic Eye pictures.
Magic Eye pictures ? Stereoscopic images ?

Thank you all very much for your replies. I am hoping to purchase some of these books for my daughter - if they are still printing them. J.
Fusion Dots which acted as a guide to find the focal point in a floating 3D image.
I think this must be what you want.
Magic Eye inc produced several books of them.

pointillism is more a style of painting and didn't need the staring technique to bring the picture out
Reading inside the books, I see they are called Autostereograms
.
just type magic eye inc into google and you'll get what you want

Thanks again to everyone. I can remember that my husband was always annoyed because he could never see one of the pictures!
