Bank Charges...do I have a case?

I have just received a letter from my bank declaring that i have 2 x 30 charges for going overdrawn last month!

the first was me going 3pence over my overdraft limit which was caused by my bank charging 1.00 for an overseas transaction which they then want to charge me 30 for!

The second was a standing order which should have automatically been cancelled!

Surely this seems unfair, does anyone think I have a right to claim these back?

p.s the bank is Lloyds tsb

Thanks

In the first instance phone the bank and complain.

You will probably find that they wipe at least one of the charges 'jut this once' as an ex gratia arrangement.

If not, you can start the ball rolling to recover some of the charges.

cheers for the reply!

I will be phoning the bank first thing in the morning to sort this out!

Im seriously thinking of changing banks over all their daft charges, I have heard that llyods is one of the worse!

Always read the small print and ask them about all the charges. They are all the same and are there to make themselves rich and us poor!
See this from the BBC. Worked a treat for me.

Another person blaming the bank for going over their overdraft!

Firstly in septmenber/october Ltsb sent out letters explaininng that they were removing the 'buffer zone' of 10 and also letting you know of the new charging structure, so its not like you can say you didnt know about it.

Secondly, you went over YOUR agreed o/d limit regardless of value you went over, and this was not caused by Ltsb it was caused the bank you used overseas charging you. So why shouldnt they charge you?

In answer to your last point about s/o, these are set up by you, not the bank. Its an agreemnet between you and recipient, and unless you decide to cancell the s/o it will continue to go out.

Why do you feel that these charges are unfair? because you didnt manage your account correclty the bank has a right to charge you for breaking the agreements set out i.e having an agreed o/d and you going over it.

As you can prob tell that i work for the said mention bank and i cant stand customers who feel hard done by because they cant manage thier accounts porperly.

Hey here is an update, as a long serving customer of the 'said mentioned' bank and have all my accounts, along with pensions, credit cards and a business account with them and have been with them for most of my life, so i do feel that they owe me something for my service and loyalty....

.....but also I am a very fair person and I believe in that if you do something wrong you get punished for it, so when i went into the bank to question the charges they waived the fee for the 3p incident but stood their ground on the other one.....so I think that was fair!

And talking of fair you reckon that it costs 30 to send out a letter...I dont think so.....thats my point!
