When used for medicinal purposes, what was sherry known as ?
I think it might be 'sack' but I can't find any reference to it being used for medicinal purposes.
Any help would be appreciated.

sack is definitely an alternative word for sherry (particularly dry sherry cf French sec) but can't help with the medicinal bit sorry
Extract from Sherry from the Province of Cadiz.
History

It is believed by some that the Phoenicians first introduced sherry to the area. The Romans continued the tradition and even the teetotal Moors took sherry - for medicinal purposes! Sherry was exported to other European countries, including Britain, as early as the 13th century. In early times, it was known as sack.

The British Pharmacopoeia name for Sherry is
Vinum Xericurn.
Have not been able to double check the spelling tho'
Vinum Xericum is the correct spelling.
